Journey Wisely
“The sun will set and rise regardless. What we choose to do with the light while it’s here is up to us. Journey wisely. ”
I found this quote while in the depths of Pinterest today and it really resonated with me. It also follows right on the heels of the conversation I was having over dinner last night along the topic of holding off on doing what we really want to do for a wide variety of reasons including fear, worry, and doubt.
Life is all about choices and when and how we decide to do things. The reality is that so many people put off doing things that they really want to do because they think, 'well, I'll do it later.' But sadly that often leads to never actually doing whatever that action or thing was. Whether it be travel, taking time away from work, talking to that person, or signing up for that event, time passes by and next thing you know the opportunity has as well.
I've always loved the Wayne Gretzky quote 'You miss 100% of the shots you don't take' because it's absolutely true. This is not a sports only motto, it's applicable to every single aspect of life. If you don't take a shot you'll never have the chance for it to go in, for it to be successful, for it to reveal itself to you. For me the last three years have very much been fueled by this motto and the lens of 'if not now, then when?' If I don't take a risk, step away from my job, give up my apartment, travel the world, visit that family member, book to climb Kilimanjaro, and whatever else, when am I going to do it? Without this mindset I would have missed out on a lot of amazing experiences, personal growth, and the shot at discovering what really lights me up.
The timing is rarely perfect, or what you may deem as perfect, so why keep holding off for every little piece to fall into place? We must make the most of our days with the opportunities that present themselves or ones we've created. As 2017 is coming to an end and a new year is on the horizon it is even more relevant to be thinking of the future, of our dreams, and of the life we want for ourselves. The choice for how to live each and every day is ours.
What would it mean for you to step into the mindset of 'if not now, then when?' and begin to take on your dreams?
What's holding you back from embarking on a new journey?
xoxo
